Nurture Happiness Today FOODIE recently visited Campechano which was awarded a Bib Gourmand for its Mexican cuisine in the inaugural 2022 Michelin Guide Toronto.

Campechano was one of the seventeen restaurants in Toronto awarded a Bib Gourmand. According to The Michelin Guide, Bib Gourmand restaurants will “leave you with a sense of satisfaction, at having eaten so well at such a reasonable price.”

Location

I visited the original Adelaide St. West location of Campechano, a casual atmosphere and cozy restaurant for dinner. We were seated in the front room of the restaurant which had a view of the open kitchen.

A second restaurant is located at 460 College Street, Toronto.

Appetizer

From their menu of “para empezar,” we started off our meal with delicious chips served with guacamole and salsa, all made in-house. As you can see from the picture below, the guacamole was served with pomegranates, adding a nice unexpected texture and flavour.

Tacos

There were about a dozen or so tacos to choose from and the delicious tortillas are made daily, pressed from corn from Mexico. Also, the menu admiringly indicated that Campechano buys their meats from “small-holding farmers in Ontario that ethically raise their animals.”

The tacos are fresh, made with quality ingredients, served one at a time. The Campechano Taco, made with beef and chorizo, was served first and very tasty.

The Carnitas Taco is made with pork confit, salsa cruda, and salsa verde. And the pork rinds added great texture and flavour to the taco.

My favourite taco was the Pescado Taco, beer-battered haddock. I will be ordering this again on my next visit!

Dessert

For dessert, we ordered the Tres Leche, a “three milk marinated sponge cake” with berry coulis and strawberries. In the photo, a candle is in the Tres Leche as it was also belated birthday get-together! It was a nice way to finish our enjoyable dinner.

In addition to its menu of tacos and sopes, Campechano offers a selection of cocktails, wine, and Mexican beers.

Overall, as The Michelin Guide noted, “if you’re here for anything but tacos, you’ve come to the wrong place.” Campechano is a great spot for a casual night out to enjoy some authentic tasting Mexican tacos! Service was friendly and we look forward to returning to try more tacos!
