Sandals Barefoot Cay
A major attraction for this resort is that guests also have access and a transfer to the private offshore island. Only a few minutes away, guests are transported to the island by a private boat.
The island has beautiful beaches, a pool and jacuzzi, restaurant, and spa.
Beaches at Sandals Royal Bahamian
Sandals Royal Bahamian is a beachfront resort with even more beaches also at the private offshore island. All the beaches at the resort were beautiful! The waters are calm, clear, and a gorgeous turquoise colour.
In addition to the main beach, this resort shuttled their guests by a private boat. The private island, Barefoot Cay, is only a short ride away.
The beach options were more than enough to accommodate the guests comfortably during our stay!
On one side of the private island, the beautiful beaches had loungers, umbrellas, swings, and hammocks.
The other side of the exclusive island was also beautiful, with calm, clear blue water. We snorkeled on this side of the island, as recommended. This side of the beach also had comfortable, large, private cabanas.

Food and Restaurants
We enjoyed all of our meals and the beautiful restaurants. The resort offers many dining options, including recently added food trucks. Reservations had to be booked for some of the dinners so be sure to inquire and confirm the dress code. We were not able to try all the restaurants at the resort during our five night stay this time! However, we enjoyed the restaurants at Sandals Royal Bahamian, including:
- Gordon’s on the Pier – romantic outdoor dining on the water that serves grilled meat and seafood.
- La Plume – Previously named the Baccarat restaurant, it has since been re-decorated and renamed to La Plume. It (still) serves French Cuisine in an elegantly decorated restaurant.
- Kimonos –Teppanyaki restaurant. It was a fun evening as the chef entertained us and the diners at our shared table as he cooked.
- Aralia House – on the private island, the restaurant serves seafood and Caribbean cuisine.
- The Queen’s Pearl – a British Pub where we enjoyed watching the NBA playoffs with other guests at the bar one night.
- Calcio – casual beachside grill where we enjoyed eating outdoors.
Photos:
There are many great spots for photos all over the resort. We saw an oversized Sandals chair, cabanas, hammocks, and also swings on the private island.
Sandals Private Photo Session:
The waters and beach were so beautiful that we did the Photo Session that was available at the resort! We had one photographer who took pictures of us in the garden and along the beach. Our photographer was patient, friendly, and helped us pose.
We returned the next day to view the pictures taken and did not feel pressured to purchase anything. We purchased several pictures and a Sandals picture frame! The pictures were provided on a CD and turned out great when we had the pictures printed at home.
Other tips and notes:
- Snorkeling and water sports: The Sandals website indicates they provide snorkeling equipment as well as other water sports equipment. There may be kayaks, windsurfing and paddle boarding so be sure to inquire if interested in these activities. Like a few others, we brought our own snorkel gear and snorkeled at the offshore private island.
- Sandals Guided Tours: if you are interested in exploring Bahamas, be sure to inquire about any tours Sandals offers directly. There are third-party tours available to book at the resort also. However, we took a tour to Nassau with other Sandals guests that was very enjoyable. It was a guided tour that included transportation and was very reasonably priced. Take a look at our article “Sightseeing in downtown Nassau, Bahamas” here.
- Entertainment: look at the entertainment schedule for what is available during your stay. We had live music and talent shows in the evenings during our stay.
- Seaweed and Sargassum: Bahamas can be negatively affected by seaweed and sargassum like many other Caribbean islands. Therefore, be sure to check the status if you love to swim in the ocean. Sandals Royal Bahamian has beautiful pools otherwise.
