We booked three nights at the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa before our stay in Bora Bora! We share our experience at this resort which provided us a fantastic and memorable time in Moorea!
Location & Journey from Tahiti
Despite the long journey from Canada, experiencing the French Polynesian islands was a dream come true! We started our bucket-list travel in the South Pacific on the island of Moorea, staying at the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa.
Moorea is a volcanic island in French Polynesia that is incredible for nature! Also, if you are looking for what to do, read our article on the Moorea activities we loved during our stay on the island! We highly recommend an ATV Moorea Tour to see the magnificent island!
Upon arrival at the Faa’a International Airport in Tahiti, we went to downtown Papeete, to the Terevau Ferry Dock, for our boat transfer to Moorea.
The Tahiti ferry terminal is about ten to fifteen minutes drive from the airport. An airport shuttle can be booked in advance, like we had, or taxis are also available.
Also note that ferries and flights do not operate after 5:30 pm between Tahiti and Moorea during the week, sometimes earlier. Therefore, be sure to confirm all your travel and transfer arrangements! The website for the Terevau ferry schedule and timetables is available here.
The boat ride was approximately thirty minutes from Tahiti to Moorea. Although scenic, it can be windy! Nonetheless, the views as you approach the island are amazing so head to the front! Lastly, once the boat docked at Moorea, the transfer by car to the Hilton Moorea was about twenty minutes.
Hilton Moorea: Our Accommodations
Since we were staying in an overwater bungalow in Bora Bora, we booked a “King Deluxe Garden Bungalow with Private Pool” during our stay in Moorea. The large bungalow was beautiful, clean, and surrounded by lush gardens! We stayed in “Motoi 32”.
Highlights of our room include:
- king bed
- private terrace with pool
- spacious bathroom
- separate seating area with sofa
- coffee maker, safe, and more!
Some accommodations at the resort also have small private pools like ours did.
Other accommodations at the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa include Garden Guestroom, Garden Suite, Garden Bungalow, and Overwater Bungalow.
Hilton Moorea: Amenities
The resort has many amenities for guests to enjoy.
Although we did not use it, the hotel has a large outdoor pool. We are beach lovers therefore we only went to the beach! Nonetheless, the pool certainly looked beautiful.
Other amenities at the resort include:
- fitness center, tennis court
- spa
- business center and meeting rooms
- guest services, concierge
- on-site dining, room service, and more!
The beach was nice, although somewhat small. Nonetheless, we enjoyed it everyday during our stay!
Overall, the resort grounds are beautiful and offer a relaxing atmosphere!
Hilton Moorea: Dining at the resort
During our stay in Moorea, we only dined at the restaurants at the hotel. Service was always friendly and attentive throughout our vacation.
Arii Vahine Polynesian Restaurant
Our hotel package included a breakfast buffet everyday which was served in the Arii Vahine restaurant.
Also, be sure to attend the Polynesian Show at the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa! Our evening included a buffet dinner and a fantastic show! The show is also available to people not staying at the resort.
Read more about this memorable evening in our related Moorea article here!
Eimeo Bar
The bar offers cocktails and has a daily Happy Hour. We had drinks here before the Polynesian show!
Hilton Moorea: Dining
Rotui Bar and Grill
We had all our lunches at Rotui Bar and Grill. Fresh fish was always on the menu, so we always ordered at least one fish entrée.
Our meals were always enjoyable and a good serving size. We recommend the sashimi and any fresh fish!
Toatea Bar & Creperie
We had to visit Toatea one evening to try their traditional French crepes. It is the only overwater restaurant in Moorea. Be sure to book a reservation!
The ambiance is wonderful as you are seated outside, with the lagoon and small sharks in the water beneath you! The Creperie offers both savory and sweet crepes.
We shared one dessert flambe crepe served with ice cream and whipped cream.
Be sure to follow us on Instagram too – we share a brief video of our crepe!
The crepe was large enough to share, which we enjoyed with our coffees.
We enjoyed our experience here and recommend going for dessert around dusk, before sunset, for a memorable ambiance.

Hilton Moorea provides great value compared to Bora Bora! However, for an unbelievable overwater bungalow, go to Bora Bora! The luxury and even the incredible water in Bora Bora cannot be compared – be sure to check out our review on the Intercontinental Bora Bora Thalasso and Spa!
Overall, if expectations are in line, for us, Moorea and our stay at the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa was a wonderful place to experience! We had a great stay, surrounded by stunning natural beauty! Everyone at the hotel provided us amazing service and a memorable experience! Most importantly, if you made this long journey, then moving on to, and staying in Bora Bora, is a must! Enjoy Moorea and French Polynesia!
*UPDATE: since our visit, the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa is renovating. At the time of writing, their website indicates the “outdoor pool and Rotui Bar & Grill will undergo renovations from January 8, 2024, through March 8, 2024.” We will surely update our article on Nurture Happiness Today if we return to the resort!
