Aside from beautiful resorts and food, exploring new countries and cultures is always an important in our travels. In Bora Bora, we explored both the incredible waters of Bora Bora, as well as the land! If you are looking for day trips in Bora Bora, we share two great excursions that we recommend!

Bora Bora Water Excursion: Snorkeling & Swim with Sting Rays and Sharks

One of our most memorable excursions on our travels, we took a half day tour to explore and experience the waters of Bora Bora. This tour really highlighted the incredible waters of Bora Bora that were amazingly clear and were different shades of blue.

We first stopped to snorkel for a while in the stunning turquoise waters of Bora Bora. They provided the snorkel equipment and let us explore the waters on our own.

As we moved to the next stop, we could see the other resorts, different islands, and most importantly the amazing water, coral, and reefs.

We stopped in shallow, clear blue waters where we swam with stingrays. The water was shallow enough that you could stand.

Incredibly we also saw many sharks on the excursion. The sharks were mainly lemon sharks and black-tipped sharks.

The shark feeding by the boat and swimming with sharks was one of the most amazing experiences we have done. Although the sharks were relatively small, most of the people stayed on the boat to view the sharks. Several of us went in the waters to swim with the sharks and take some pictures.

Our group also travelled to a deeper part of the waters where we were able to swim with different types of sharks. It was amazing to see the different shade of blue in the last set of waters where several of us got in the water to swim with the small sharks.

The last stop of the excursion was a short visit to a small island, where you could swim or explore the island. The island had white sand beaches and was a short stop before heading back to the resort.

4×4 Bora Bora Jeep Tour

We did a half-day jeep tour of Bora Bora where we got to explore the island with two other couples. It was a fun few hours off the resort where we also learned some history of the beautiful islands we were visiting!

The excursion included stops where we could meet some locals and see lush and stunning views of the land. I have done several other open-air jeep tours in different countries and always find it a unique, fun way to explore islands!

Please also note that jeep tours may not be best for everyone as it can get bumpy depending on the terrain and you are exposed to the outdoors!

Our first stop had U.S. cannons from World War II. There were great views of the island from the elevated viewpoint.

At a small family plantation, we got to see the local vegetation and had some fresh coconut and other fruit from their lands.

We stopped and learned about pareos and the process involved in painting them. Pareos, similar to a sarong, is a wrap around skirt/clothing worn by Polynesians. The pareos were colourful, light-weight, and each of us on the tour got wrapped in a pareo in different ways. It was a short, fun stop and we did not feel pressured to buy any pareos, although we did purchase one as a souvenir!

The views where we explored the “sacred stone of Hiro the Warrior” were beautiful. We stopped to take some photos here as it offered great views of the lush vegetation of the island and different shades of blue of the waters.
