With so many patisseries and confectioneries in Paris, you will certainly come across the famous Angelina Paris in your foodie research! We had to try the famous desserts at this Parisian institution, when we visited the City of Lights last spring!
Angelina Paris is a tea house which became famous after it first opened in 1903. It is in the beautiful first arrondissement in Paris, located at 226 Rue de Rivoli in central Paris, France. Today, you will often find people waiting in line to dine in the legendary tea room or waiting to purchase treats to-go from their store.
Breakfast, afternoon tea, and brunch are also available when dining in the elegant tea room at the iconic location. In addition, please note that reservations are no longer being accepted in the Rivoli Tea Room.
Given the unpredictability of the wait and our itinerary, we decided to purchase their delicacies to go! People have waited over an hour to dine in the beautiful room! Nonetheless, we absolutely had to try the legendary sweets and waited in the much shorter line for the store.
Also, note that there is a different line for dining in the tea room versus the store. Therefore, be sure to confirm you are waiting in the appropriate line so you do not waste your time inadvertently!
Angelina Paris: Pastries & Signature Fare
Angelina Paris offers a collection of beautiful, freshly baked pastries and treats!
The four signatures of Angelina Paris are the Mont-Blanc, the old fashioned hot chocolate, the chestnut cream, and the macaroons.
According to their website, the Mont-Blanc is the “true emblem of the House of Angelina.” It is made with meringue and Chantilly cream covered with the vermicelli of chestnut cream.
Decadent and rich, we tried the chocolate and raspberry Mont-Blanc. It was not too sweet and one (original size) is enough to share between two people!
In addition, we got two macarons and, of course, their famous hot chocolate!
The pistachio and caramel macarons were lovely, not particularly special in my opinion, but still fresh and enjoyable.
As for the famous old fashioned hot chocolate, it is unique and worth trying to see why! Apparently, the hot chocolate recipe is a secret and has remained unchanged for a century! According to its website, it is made with three kinds of cocoa from Niger, Ghana, and the Ivory Coast.
It is rich and creamy! Although not too sweet, I could not drink it on a regular basis, nor finish the whole cup! Still, I am pleased to have indulged in this famous treat!
Angelina Paris: Final Thoughts
As a foodie, we could not have missed Angelina Paris during our first time in the city!
This iconic address at 226 rue de Rivoli is beautiful and full of history! As such, the café was always crowded when we walked by, as our elegant boutique hotel, Hotel Brighton, was nearby (read our Hotel Brighton review here).
Expect a wait if you go to this location, to dine in the tea room, or for a to-go purchase. However, we still recommend trying these famous delights! Indulge, enjoy and have fun!
There are currently eight locations in France and several locations abroad including the United States, Middle East, and Asia.
