On a return trip to Turks and Caicos we visited with family members and stayed at the Royal West Indies Resort for one week. We share some pictures of the resort and what we enjoyed!

The four-star resort offers mid-range beachfront accommodations in a prime spot on the stunning Grace Bay Beach. The resort was comfortable, well-maintained, and provided us everything needed for a quiet, relaxing, enjoyable vacation!

“Spacious, comfortable, well appointed…and surprisingly affordable”

-Royal West Indies Resort website

Some notes and highlights of the Royal West Indies Resort include:

  • beach location: great beachfront spot on Grace Bay Beach, not crowded.
  • low-rise, three-story buildings spread throughout the property
  • grounds: beautiful greenery and gardens throughout the property which were well maintained and sculpted.
  • on-site dining: Pelican Bay Restaurant and Bar – great food. We ate here daily.
  • pools: two outdoor pools and outdoor jacuzzi
  • complimentary use of the following at the resort:
    • beach chairs, loungers, towels, umbrellas,
    • hobie cats and kayaks
    • bicycles

Other notable, additional information:

  • no elevators
  • no on-site gym or spa. Still, the resort can arrange for massages or spa services (e.g. in your room).
  • no nightly entertainment provided by the resort. However, the on-site restaurant does have “theme nights” which may offer live entertainment. Therefore, we enjoyed live music and musicians which played outdoors by the restaurant during our stay.

Of course, there are certainly many Grace Bay Beach options for a more luxurious stay. For a quiet, elegant five-star resort, be sure to also check out our article here on Point Grace Resort where we stayed on our first visit to Turks and Caicos Islands. Point Grace Resort is also located on beautiful Grace Bay Beach, offering boutique-style accommodations. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Royal West Indies Resort that provided a casual, unpretentious, and enjoyable stay!

Location of Royal West Indies Resort

The Royal West Indies Resort is located on beautiful Grace Bay Beach in Turks and Caicos. Grace Bay Beach consistently ranks at or near the top of the world’s best beach awards. The beach is long with soft white sand and turquoise blue water. Be sure to also check out our article on our favourite beaches here!

Royal West Indies Resort is approximately (less than) twenty minutes drive from the Providenciales International Airport.

*TIP: Private Airport Transfers – we booked a private airport transfer, by SUV, to our resort to avoid more waiting and lines for a taxi at the airport. There were no other people in our vehicle and agreed we made the right decision, especially since we were with our elderly parents on this trip! If it was just myself and my husband, a taxi would have been fine. We booked the transfer in advance before our trip! We also booked the Airport Fast Track for our arrival – read our article here!

Royal West Indies Resort is walking distance from five-star resorts such as The Ritz Carlton Turks & Caicos (approximately seventeen-minute walk) and Grace Bay Club (approximately ten-minute walk), on the same stretch of beach.

In addition, the resort is located within walking distance to shops, restaurants and other attractions, such as the following:

  • Casablanca Casino ~ four minute walk
  • Shops of Ports of Call plaza ~ fourteen minute walk
  • Graceway Gourmet supermarket ~ seventeen minute walk. However, we found it too hot to walk there during our stay in June and ended up taking a short taxi ride.
Resort Grounds

The Royal West Indies Resort has beautiful, lush greenery and gardens throughout the property which were very well maintained.

Also, if accessibility is important, most of the resort grounds are wheelchair accessible and we recommend booking ground-level accommodations as we did for our family members. Please note there are no elevators if your suite is not ground-level. As such, we noted the ground-floor suite request in our hotel reservation at the time of booking.

Beachfront

The Royal West Indies Resort and it’s beachfront are spacious and never felt crowded. Beach loungers and umbrellas were always available during our stay. Resort staff provided beach towels daily and were nearby to assist guests if needed.

Pools

Although most people who visit Grace Bay are beach lovers, Royal West Indies Resort also has outdoor pools and an outdoor hot tub available for guests.

Although we did not use them, the resort also has complimentary use of bicycles available for guests.

Accommodations at Royal West Indies Resort:

Royal West Indies Resort offers the following accommodations in “Botanical,” “Ocean View,” or “Ocean Front”:

  • Studio Suite (approximately 540 sq. ft.)
  • One-Bedroom Suite (approximately 1004 sq. ft.)
  • Two-Bedroom Suite (approximately 1554 sq. ft.)

The suites are decorated in a “classic colonial Caribbean style” and feature outdoor patios. We all found the resort, grounds, and suites well-maintained and clean.

Ocean Front Studio

We booked a studio, spacious enough for two people, which had a beautiful ocean front view! The covered balcony is great to eat and drink or simply enjoy the views.

Botanical One-Bedroom Suite

For our family that accompanied us, we booked a botanical one-bedroom suite. It was located on the ground floor, as requested, very spacious (1004 sq. ft.), and well-maintained:

Dining at Royal West Indies Resort

Pelican Bay Restaurant & Bar offers indoor and outdoor seating and an open-air bar for guests at the resort and to the public. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

We ate most of our meals (lunch and dinner) each day at Pelican Bay Restaurant which we enjoyed outdoors!

Lunch options we tried included burgers, tacos, and salad. We ordered take-out as well from Pelican Bay Restaurant for lunch including pizzas which could easily also be brought back to your suite.

We had almost all our dinners during our week-long stay at Pelican Bay Restaurant, al fresco. Our dinners at the resort did not disappoint and had live musical entertainment on a couple of days as well!

Dining tips:

  • Reservations: book dinner reservations. The restaurant always asked if we had reservations even if not at full capacity. We booked reservations on OpenTable for dinner even-though we were guests at the resort. OpenTable is free to join and offers points that can be collected for a “Dining Reward”.
  • Food: recommended dinners (subject to change and availability) include the oxtail, jerk chicken, BBQ ribs, and the daily catch (fish).
  • Happy Hour: The bar is a popular spot for residents and visitors. Daily, “happy hour” is available from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for discounted drinks!

Royal West Indies Resort: Conclusion

Grace Bay Beach offers many luxurious hotels and resort accommodations. However, on the same spectacular stretch of soft, white-sand beach, the Royal West Indies Resort provides a nice option for mid-range accommodations in the area. Casual, unpretentious, and provided everything we needed!

The beachfront location is excellent and offers good value on Grace Bay’s spectacular beach. Overall, it was a quiet, relaxing, great stay at Royal West Indies Resort with family, on our return trip to gorgeous Grace Bay Beach!

Enjoy Turks and Caicos!
