During a recent stay in Niagara-on-the-Lake, we dined at Zees Grill. We share our dining experience and our recommended dishes at this popular restaurant in historic “Old Town”.
Zees Grill: Location
Zees Grill is located at the Shaw Club Hotel in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Since it is located just across the street from the Shaw Festival Theatre, it is also a convenient, tasty option for dining before or after a show!
Zees Grill: The Restaurant
Zees Grill serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner:
- breakfast: daily 8 a.m. -10 a.m.
- lunch: Saturdays & Sundays 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Please check with the restaurant directly to confirm hours, which are subject to change.
As we visited in January, we ate indoors. Zees Grill provides a casual, yet elegant ambiance.
Notably, OpenTable indicates the restaurant “has the largest patio in Niagara”! We could see a section of the patio as we waited at the entrance to be seated. It looked very nice and spacious. The covered porch is certainly a great option for dining in the area in the warmer months!
Also, there is a bar with some high-chair seating available, separate from the main dining area.
The decor in the open, main dining area, was eclectic. There is a small fireplace on the far end, away from the entrance, which provided a cozy feel to the room.
Also, the high ceilings and natural light from the nicely decorated windows, enhanced the atmosphere and provided more character to the quaint room.
Zee’s Grill: What We Ate
We had dinner at the restaurant and breakfast the following morning during our stay at the Shaw Club Hotel!
We started with two appetizers, a crab cake and seared ahi tuna:
For entrees we ordered the rosemary lamb shank and tenderloin:
The stand-out dish during our dinner was the beef tenderloin. Notably, it was served with peppercorn sauce. The grilled AAA beef tenderloin, ordered medium rare, was very tasty. My husband enjoyed every bite and would certainly order it again!
The restaurant offers a variety of local and international wines, as well as other alcoholic drinks including:
- wine: available by the glass, half litre, and bottle
- “wine tasting flight” – choose 3 of the wines by the glass (3 oz each)
- beer, cider, and coolers
Lastly, fortunately, our hotel package included breakfast at Zees Grill, which was delectable!
The “caramelized peach and bacon pancakes” is delicious. The buttermilk pancakes were fluffy and topped with “maple peaches and double smoked bacon” and blueberries. Definitely a rich and memorable breakfast we recommend when you want to indulge!
Also, we ordered the “Canadian Style Eggs Benedict” which was tasty! According to the menu, included in the ingredients are Canadian back bacon, 3-year Ontario cheddar, fresh made hollandaise and potato galette.

Zees Grill: Conclusion
Overall, we enjoyed dining at Zees Grill and can see why this restaurant is often busy! Service was excellent on both visits, for dinner and breakfast, which was friendly and attentive!
